BARRIER FREE LIFE CENTER

     Having been prepared by Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and submitted to the Kuwait Fund, $5 million grant-funded Barrier Free Life Special Education and Rehabilitation Center was built on the land with 13,800 m² closed and 18,640 m² open areas allocated by the Metropolitan Municipality.

     Main objective of the center is to provide rehabilitation, psycho-social support and related services to individuals with special needs, veterans and their families in a planned, programmed and effective 

     Barrier Free Life Center is the first and only state-sponsored center in Türkiye that provides rehabilitation and social education services to all disability groups. With its capacity, the center, which is the first in Türkiye and the second in Europe following Amsterdam, can serve 1,050 individuals with special needs at the same time. The center consists of two main education departments: supporting training and training support units.

The construction of the project with an installed power of 168Kw has been completed and the entire installation cost of the facility ($140,000) was covered by the GIZ fund within the scope of the grant project.

With the rooftop solar power plant, 50% of electricity-related expenses of Barrier Free Life Center are covered. The project annually generates 285,000 Kwh of electricity. The amount of CO2 disposed with the facility is 137 tons per year on average.
