ECOLOGICAL BUILDING
Gaziantep Ecological Building, which was realized in accordance with PassivHaus and LEED Platinium criteria and is the first of its kind in Türkiye with its PassivHaus certificate, is an exemplary building that releases minimum carbon emissions and uses renewable energy systems. Completed with the joint efforts of Gaziantep University and Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and supported by Silk Road Development Agency, the building functions as a Human Resources Center and serves as a center where renewable energy technologies are introduced.
Following the construction of the first PassivHaus, Darmstadt Kranichstein in 1991, nearly 50,000 PassivHaus buildings have been introduced worldwide. The first example of PassivHaus in Türkiye is "Gaziantep Ecological Building".
There is a conference room up to 60 people inside the Ecological Building. Apart from this area, where new ideas about energy saving and sustainable energy sources can be shared and developed, a computer room is designed at the entrance of the building for both tourists and students to gather information and to use as a study area. A resting, waiting and exhibition area is also available for the purpose of flexible usage. Existing systems within the building are introduced to visitors through introductory films and a model of the building.
In the construction of Ecological Building, which was sized based on its needs, resource loss and waste generation were prevented, and excessive energy consumption was also prevented with compact architectural design. In line with the requirements of the building, various systems that require minimum energy consumption and support low carbon emissions accordingly have been implemented.
The most important feature of Ecological Building is that it minimizes energy requirement by providing a high level of thermal insulation. 40-cm thick "glass wool thermal insulation boards" wrapping the outer shell of the building keep the heat inside the building in balance.
In the Ecological Building project, "Green Roof" system, one of the environmentally friendly building solutions, was applied. In short, the "Green Roof" is created by planting green plants and flowers on the roof of the building, supported by insulation and insulation materials, instead of classical coating materials. This system also contributes to balancing the amount of humidity and carbon emissions inside the building.
